The Equine Centre development has been designed to provide modern teaching facilities for equine students, and includes 70 stables, and an indoor arena, three outdoor arenas, horsewalker, grass rides and cross country schooling fences.
The Equine Centre at Sparsholt College has been included within London 2012's Pre-Olympic Games Training Camp Guide.
The Centre will provide the following opportunities for our students:
- Riding instructions towards course requirements and BHS exams, which are held at the Centre.
- Practical instruction in equine husbandry to underpin lecture work.
- Development of practical and riding skills through Centre duties which are on a weekly rota and form an assessed part of all our equine programmes.
- The equine team feel that one of the most important parts of your course is the time spent developing these skills and place a lot of emphasis on Centre duties and work placements.
- The chance to bring your horse to College.
- Experience of being involved in helping to run the dressage, jumping and other events that will take place at the Centre, to give valuable experience of the equine industry. The opportunity to use the Centre as a data source for investigative projects.
- Part time courses including BHS exams, horse-owner's courses and lots more.
- Additional training for British University Schools Association (BUSA)
- The Centre horses are a combination of some College-owned horses, loan horses and working liveries which provide a range of riding levels for students. Riding is taught in groups with a maximum size of 8, with students’ ability and experience taken into account to assure safe and effective instruction.
The Equine Centre is not a commercial riding school and is not resourced to provide riding instruction to external clients.
We recommend that all our students receive regular instruction prior to coming to College if at all possible, which is best received from a licensed, and preferably BHS-approved riding school, or a BHS-qualified freelance trainer.
The teaching staff at the Centre are all BHS-qualified, with excellent experience in the horse industry, with several who compete on their own horses.
