This week, a group of 16 BSc and FdSc Ecology and Conservation Management students went with lecturer Stuart Robertson to carry out work on Weeke Pond in Winchester. They were joined by Trevor Dixon (Weeke Pond Improvement Scheme) and Rachel Moroney (The Conservation Volunteers).

The group cut back overhanging vegetation as well as cutting a large amount of reeds from around the edge of the pond and from one of the coir matting rafts within the pond itself. They also removed a large amount of duck weed from the surface of the pond, to increase the amount of clear water.

This was part of ongoing management of the historic pond which has had regular Sparsholt involvement over the years, and well as local volunteers from Weeke Pond Improvement Scheme.

Thanks to student Sue Stileman for the photos.
