The essentials for a career in butchery
An apprenticeship in butchery will provide the essential skills to work with meat preparation in many different areas. This could be a butchers shop or supermarket counter, or supplying catering businesses. Other opportunities are in abattoirs, or with meat product manufacturers and processors.
An apprenticeship will also help develop a professional working style, safe working practices, awareness of the work environment and communicating effectively with colleagues and customers.
Other skills will include functional skills needed in the work place (Maths, English, ICT) and the specialist qualifications required to carry out certain tasks. These might include food safety management and emergency first aid.
