BSc (Hons) Aquaculture and Fishery Management graduate

I completed my A levels and spent a year out working on a fish farm before deciding to do my degree. I’d always had a passion for fishing and wanted to pursue a career in a related field, therefore aquaculture was a natural progression and having heard about Sparsholt’s great reputation in both practical and theoretical work on the subject, I decided to attend University Centre Sparsholt.

The course here at Sparsholt is excellent as it has just the right balance between learning practical skills and theory to support this knowledge. The lecturers are also a huge advantage to the degree as they provide you with a such a high standard of support that you would not receive at similar institutions. They are passionate and provide helpful guidance throughout every process in the degree, in addition to being great fun to work with.

Practical skills I’ve acquired on the course range from electrofishing and lab analysis to running feed trials, all of which have been very useful. Report writing and statistical analysis have also been key to my development as I am currently culminating my Master’s degree in Sustainable Aquaculture at the University of Stirling, before heading into a prospective PhD or job within the field.

Sparsholt has equipped me with the skills needed to succeed and provided an abundance of useful contacts within the industry. If a career in aquaculture of fisheries management is something that interests you, then this is the place to achieve that goal!
