Specialist and Research Interests
My main role is to manage the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals. This is a 2 year distance learning course for members of the zoo community. This is run in collaboration with the British & Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) and is delivered via regional centres throughout the UK and Irish Republic.

I am also the Nutritionist for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) which involves evaluating and modifying the diets of the large range of species within their two animal collections at Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park. Currently, RZSS provides a nutritional evaluation service for forages for other zoos and I am involved in analysing bamboo for the Giant Pandas and collaborating with other research organisations in Scotland on hind gut fermentation of bamboo in their digestive system. An additional area of research and interest is the analysis and evaluation of browse silage for relevant species.
