Veterinary Nursing and Applied Animal Science Lecturer

About Me

I started nursing in a wildlife hospital in Surrey, then qualified as an RVN as a mature student, having decided to change career. I specialised¬†in Emergency and Critical Care and later¬†worked at a multi-disciplinary referral practice near Winchester, then at the UK’s first dedicated¬†Oncology and Soft Tissue hospital in Guildford. Students occasionally spot me on Channel 4’s Supervet programme!

I still maintain my links within the industry by working regularly for an out-of-hours emergency vets and when I can, I volunteer at a wildlife hospital too. I am a qualified Clinical Coach, supporting student nurses in practice.

Interest/Teaching Expertise

As a developing profession, Veterinary Nurses can learn a great deal from research carried out in the field of human paediatric and critical care nursing. After all, our patients cannot tell us how they feel either! I am keen to explore the possibilities of collaborative research and teaching. My particular areas of interest include intensive care, medical and neurological nursing. I am also interested in the detection and treatment of pain and I plan to start a Masters degree in this area.
