Academic entry requirements

These generic entry requirements for UK/EU are for guidance only, please check the course specific entry requirements, or contact the International Office if you have any questions about the eligibility of your own qualifications.

If you are studying in an international school teaching A levels or IB please refer to our UK/EU entry qualifications. If you are studying in an international school under the US system, please consult our US entry requirements.

Level 3 Diploma

The basic requirement is 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language; or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit level. Some courses require 5 GCSEs at grade C or above; and some courses also have additional requirements that the GCSEs should include Science and/or Mathematics.

The Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing requires 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject.

FdSc foundation degree

160 UCAS tariff points gained at A level including a minimum of one grade C (see here for the full range of UK equivalents). Some courses require one of the A levels to be a Science or Life Science subject. We also accept the IB Diploma with a score of 26.

The FdSc in Veterinary Nursing requires 5 GCSEs at C or above, including English language, Mathematics, and a Science subject, plus 3 A level passes, including 2 at grade B, of which one should be a Life Science. We also accept the IB Diploma with a score of 26 with grade 5 or above in Higher Level Biology, plus Standard Level English and Mathematics (unless already passed with grade C or above at GCSE).

BSc(Hons) undergraduate degree

3 A level passes, including 2 at grade C or above, one of which should be in a Science or Life Science subject. The BSc Equine courses require 240 UCAS tariff points gained at A level, including a minimum of 2 grade Cs at A level.

We also accept the IB Diploma with a score of 26 with grade 5 in Higher Level Biology, plus Standard Level English and Mathematics; the BSc(Hons) Equine courses do not require the Higher Level Biology.

MSc postgraduate degree

Satisfactory completion of a relevant undergraduate degree at 2.2 or above.

English language requirements

EU students with a GCSE grade C in English will normally have the required English language skills for entry onto courses at Sparsholt College; otherwise, the following general requirements may apply. 

Level 3 Diploma

IELTS (Academic) 5.5 overall, with a minimum 5.0 in any band; Pearson (PTE) 51; Cambridge English Scale Score 162-168 (FCE grade C; CAE level B2).

FdSc foundation degree

IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall, with a minimum 5.5 in any band; Pearson (PTE) 56; Cambridge English Scale Score 169-175 (FCE grade B; CAE level B2).

We also accept the following qualifications from EU students: GCSE English Language grade C; IGCSE English (as a first or second language) at grade C; AS or A level English Language or English Literature; International Baccalaureate (English A or B syllabus or English Literature Standard or Higher level) grade 4.

BSc(Hons) undergraduate degree

IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall, with a minimum 5.5 in any band; Pearson (PTE) 56; Cambridge English Scale Score 169-175 (FCE grade B; CAE level B2).

We also accept the following qualifications from EU students: GCSE English Language grade C; IGCSE English (as a first or second language) at grade C; AS or A level English Language or English Literature; International Baccalaureate (English A or B syllabus or English Literature Standard or Higher level) grade 4.

MSc postgraduate degree

IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall, with a minimum 6.0 in any band; Pearson (PTE) 61; Cambridge English Scale Score 176-185 (FCE grade A; CAE level B2).

We also accept the following qualifications from EU students: GCSE English Language grade C; IGCSE English (as a first or second language) at grade C; AS or A level English Language or English Literature; International Baccalaureate (English A or B syllabus or English Literature Standard or Higher level) grade 4.

Visa requirements

Students ordinarily resident in a European Union country do not normally require a visa to study in the UK.
