What will I learn?

Ineffective meetings are a source of frustration. Effective meetings can be positive and productive, leaving people informed and motivated to take action.

This course will look at how to run effective meetings, with a focus on the skills to facilitate or chair your meetings effectively. If you need to run meetings, you’ll find the approaches on this course are applicable to a range of situations, from team briefings to Board meetings to informal training events.

You will learn how to:

1. Set up an effective meeting:

  • Identify the essential elements of an effective meeting
  • Craft a thought provoking agenda

    2. Use effective facilitation/chairing skills to:

  • Open the meeting in a positive way
  • Engage and involve people in the meeting
  • Avoid group-think
  • Deal with difficult situations arising in a meeting
  • Incorporate creative techniques for generating ideas
  • Confirm objectives are met

    3. Follow up effectively

  • Tips for note/minute taking
  • Follow up on actions agreed

    Due to funding restrictions this course is not available to existing full time Sparsholt College/Andover College students aged 16, 17 or 18 (or 19-24 with an EHCP) on the 31/8 in the year they started their course.
