{"id":5089,"date":"2014-12-18T11:00:12","date_gmt":"2014-12-18T11:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sparsholt.ac.uk\/?p=5089"},"modified":"2015-03-02T16:05:52","modified_gmt":"2015-03-02T16:05:52","slug":"ecology-conservation-hedge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sparsholt.ac.uk\/college\/news\/ecology-conservation-hedge\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecology And Conservation Students Lay Hedge As Shelter For Wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our second year BSc and FdSc Ecology and Conservation Management students have been busying laying a new hedge over two days.<\/p>\n<p>Day one, which took place a week ago, involved clearing excess material from the hedge and partially cutting the stems so that they could be leant over at an angle.<\/p>\n<p>With the section was cut and laid, they returned this week for the second day. This consisted of putting stakes in the hedge line and weaving hazel along them to create a good, solid and living fence-like structure that will continue to grow and provide shelter and habitat for a wide range of wildlife species.<\/p>\n<p>The final task was to trim off any loose ends and cut the tops of the stakes. The hedge should now regrow well and be much more dense than it was before.
