MSc Zoo Biology

After finishing my A Levels, I started to research possible career ideas and decided to look into courses at University Centre Sparsholt due to my love of animals and the outdoors.

Initially I did not have the science qualification needed for my chosen degree so instead I joined the Access to Higher Education course to gain this and allow me to progress onto the degree programmes. The outstanding facilities and small lecture sizes really appealed to me and the practical structure as well as the 1:1 support from tutors allowed me to progress more effectively with my study through my undergraduate course and now into the MSc.

The lecturers at Sparsholt have also made my experience so enjoyable. Their level of knowledge and industry connections has opened up a wide number of opportunities whilst also providing real-life scenarios to back up theory work. My course highlight has been the opportunity to present my dissertation research at a BIAZA research conference. This gave me a huge boost in confidence as well as allowing me to connect with other researchers. Being a Sparsholt graduate will allow me to build on my base of industry connections, further increase my confidence and use the knowledge I have gained across my five years as a Sparsholt student.

My top advice to new students is to say yes to any opportunity – although at the time they may be out of your comfort zone, these experiences will be incredibly valuable to your CV and career progression. Your confidence and knowledge will grow massively at UCS, so make the most of the expert theory and practical-based lectures but most importantly, enjoy – it will fly by!
