University Centre Sparsholt is delighted to announce that two MSc Equestrian Behaviour, Performance and Training graduates have been invited to give oral presentations of their postgraduate research projects at the 2020 British Society of Animal Science Conference.
The conference, “The Challenge of Change” will take place between 30 March and 1 April at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. The UCS graduates will join a host of exceptional speakers, who will lead delegates in the discussion on how to create a holistic approach to define the role of animal science in solving the world’s food crisis, whilst also addressing the challenges of food security, nutrition and production.
Ella Bartlett, a previous winner of the Natural Animal Feeds Trophy for Best Equine Dissertation in 2016. Completed her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management at Sparsholt College before progressing onto the BSc (Hons) in Equine Science and the Equine Masters’ course, MSc Equestrian Behaviour, Performance and Training at University Centre Sparsholt.
Ella is currently a PhD researcher at Scotland’s Rural College/University of Edinburgh and will be presenting her project – “Equine (Equus caballus) social network construction within small domestic groups” at the conference.
Kate Fletcher, previously an RSPCA inspector, is now Senior Manager for Global Animal Welfare at The Brooke (Action for working horses and donkeys) and will be presenting her project – “Contemplating the Five Domains model of animal welfare assessment: UK horse owner perceptions of equine wellbeing”.

It’s been fantastic to tutor Kate and Ella throughout their Masters’ and even better to show other students here at Sparsholt what they can achieve in their time with us!”
