FdSc Wildlife Ecology and Conservation student
I decided to come to Sparsholt because of the fantastic reviews. I visited for an open day and loved the stunning Winchester countryside, which is perfect for learning about wildlife.
The course is very practical and hands-on, so all the theory learnt can be put into practice, which is incredibly important for the industry. The tutors are extremely knowledgeable and encouraging, and always make sure you gain all the relevant industry-based experience.
The highlights of the course for me were observing the bird ringing sessions run by tutor Dr Claire Cresswell, who is a licenced BTO bird ringer. She has also helped me to find my own trainer, so hopefully I will also be able to gain a bird ringing licence over the next few years.
The woodland and reedbed facilities on campus are perfectly suited to outdoor learning. We also have a variety of survey equipment and fully functional laboratories for analysis and dissection work, plus trips to the surrounding Hampshire countryside.
After the FdSc I am planning to top-up to the BSc course at Sparsholt. Once I have completed this I hope to find a job as a survey assistant or ranger before heading on to a Master of Research. One day I would like to become a university lecturer, as they have inspired me so much here at Sparsholt.
Sparsholt has provided with me with all the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that I will need to find a job, or to continue my learning. They have made me feel incredibly confident in my abilities as a future ecologist.
