AMY
Access to Higher Education

The support at Sparsholt is absolutely incredible and I couldn’t have picked a better place.

I’m Amy and I’m on the BSc Agricultural degree at University Centre Sparsholt.

I came here as a pathway change – I was originally doing a different degree elsewhere and then I changed and came onto the Access to Higher Education course here.

I have the family background of being in farming, and my brother came here, and he moved on as a farm manager, my parents did too. When I heard that there was an Agricultural degree starting here, I thought ‘I’ll jump on it’ and I couldn’t have done a better choice.

I’ve absolutely enjoyed every part of it! I had the basic background growing up on farms, and here I’ve learned a lot more. I was always very a livestock girl, but I’ve actually moved over to really enjoying arable as well, like being around machinery more.

I’m really excited to be in the next generation of young farmers especially coming up from spa shop because the facilities they have here, especially with all the technology like the AI facilities, the milking parlour and the tractors they’ve got her as well with GPS.

The support you get at the University Centre Sparsholt is absolutely incredible and I think that’s one of the reasons I’m really happy chose to come here because I’m one of those people who find that bigger universities are not the place for me. I do need that one to one support and you can walk up to any teacher and they will help you no matter what, they will make an appointment with you. My tutors and everyone have been incredible at helping me move forward with things like work experience. Even with assignments, there is always someone there to support you through that.

Coming in through the Access Course is how I found out about this course and is the reason I am where I am today. The support at Sparsholt is absolutely incredible and I couldn’t have picked a better place.
