Our large and attractive campus is set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. As well as a fully-functioning farm, we have an extensive variety of specialist training areas and these are shared by all relevant courses.

  • Animal Management Centre and Veterinary Nursing Training Centre

    The Animal Management Centre at the College is currently home to 1200 animals comprising of nearly 200 species, including many of conservation interest. In addition to the many familiar companion animals held, the collection also has a zoo licence and is a full BIAZA member.

    We have an extensive collection of zoo species including mammals such as red panda, lemurs, tamarin, giant tenrec, meerkats and skunk as well as paddock animals such as alpaca, kirk’s dik dik, mara and donkeys. The bird collection is extensive with 160 specimens including, pheasants, parrots, cranes, owls and softbills. The reptile and amphibian department is spread over six rooms with over a hundred reptiles, more than a hundred amphibians and nearly five hundred invertebrates.

    The state of the art kennels are licenced for up to 20 dogs that are at the college on a day care or full board basis. The kennel block also accommodates a well-equipped grooming room. The cattery is home to a range of non-pedigree and pedigree breeds such as Turkish Van, Russian Blue and Bengals.

    The instructors and technicians that work at the centre are experts in their field and passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills with our students.

    In addition to our animals, we also have a state of the art Veterinary Nursing Training Centre.

  • Farm and Estate

    Our 400 acre (158ha) commercial Home Farm provides real work training for students. We have a dairy herd with onsite dairy unit and access to differentiated units via partner organisations. We also have a beef barn with efficient handling systems, whilst our pig unit is consistent with modern welfare standards.

    Our dairy herd consists of 100 Holstein Cows and we also have 250 breeding sheep, as well as 130 breeding sows that rear 2,200 pigs per year.

  • Brand New Motor Vehicle and Engineering Building

    We’ve invested heavily in our motor vehicle and engineering department with brand new, state-of-the-art workshops and classrooms. Working in these facilities and with our team of expert lecturers you will gain real industry experience giving you a jump start in your career or onto higher-level study.

    The new facilities include: three workshops; dedicated welding and fabrication workshop; viewing gallery; large multi-purpose classrooms; apprentice training room; duel-control car; fleet of go-karts; rally car; fully equipped tool kit cages; 5 cars in each workshop; Landover and Discovery for off-road projects; ramps for lifting vehicles; diagnostic testing kits; tyre fitting and balancing equipment; wheel alignment kits.

  • Brand New Sports Centre

    Sparsholt College’s exciting new sports centre was opened in 2014 and includes a full size sports hall marked for numerous sports, an exercise studio with sprung floor, a fully equipped fitness suite and a purpose built state of the art climbing wall. The new climbing wall includes natural rock features, overhangs and a number of sport routes to suit climbers of all abilities.

  • Aquatic Research and Conservation Centre

    Our 650m2 purpose-built fish house is without match in the UK and holds stocks of carp, catfish, tilapia and a massive range of ornamental species. With a large indoor koi pool, research areas and fully up-to-date holding systems, it is little wonder the ARCC is sponsored by many industrial contacts.

  • Salmonid Rearing and Trials Centre

    Completed in October 2012, this state of the art facility is used for rearing cold water species. The site produces brown trout for restocking and rainbow trout for the table.

    The SRTC also provides a site for a number of commercial trials on fish feed for the largest fish nutrition manufacturers in Britain.

  • Equine Centre

    Our Equine Centre provides a professional teaching environment for our courses at all levels of study. The facilities include: Stabling for up to 75 horses; a 60m x 23m indoor arena; three outdoor arenas (70m x 50m with Olympic-standard surface; 60m x 30m; 60m x 30m); covered horse walker; grass rides; cross country schooling fences; weigh bridge.

    The Equine Centre is a British Horse Society (BHS) approved examination centre endorsed by the ‘Where to Train’ guide. Horses are carefully selected by either purchase or loan to provide students with the opportunity to develop a range of riding skills and provide a diverse research population for projects and dissertations.

  • The Gardeners' Question Time Garden

    Since 2001, the College has been home to the Potting Shed recording studio and garden for BBC Radio 4’s ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’; the garden was opened to the public in May 2002. Since then, a sell-out number of over 2,500 visitors come to the College to attend the GQT Summer Garden Party.

  • Game and Wildlife Centre

    Officially opened in 2011 the Game and Wildlife Centre provides industry standard facilities to practise all aspects of game rearing and game meat processing. The rearing facility includes an egg store, incubator and hatchery, along with an indoor rearing area for winter quail rearing projects. A game larder, cold store and preparation room give students first-hand experience of larder and game meat processing work and allow them to follow deer and game from the field to fork.

  • Higher Education Study Centre

    We recently opened our new Higher Education Study Centre, a dedicated building for our Foundation, Honours and Master’s degree students. This study retreat offers computer facilities, mentoring rooms and a lounge. This investment is a continuation of the growth of Undergraduate and Postgraduate study at Sparsholt College.

  • risual Microsoft Academy

    Sparsholt College, in partnership with IT services company risual, opened a Microsoft Academy in January 2017. This new facility enables the College to introduce future-proof and relevant Apprenticeships in IT and Telecommunications to students to tackle the serious digital skills gap in the region by upgrading student’s skills through the Microsoft certification.

    The Microsoft Academy provides a new IT suite, complete with custom graffiti where new students will study courses and Apprenticeships from the latest in cyber security to cloud infrastructure technicians. The new suite of exciting IT, software, web and telecoms professionals Apprenticeships can also be accessed by wider business community to train their next generation of IT professionals, as well as providing opportunities to external businesses for digital marketing within their own organisations.
