Sparsholt College Group is delighted to announce that The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), Reesink UK, and Toro have awarded Sparsholt college apprentice Daniel Parker the prestigious Toro Young Student Greenkeeper of The Year Award for 2024.

The winner was decided from a pool of 10 finalists at Oulton Hall in Leeds following regional judging earlier in the year and further examination in which the finalists undertook a series of tests that gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for the Greenkeeping industry.

Daniel, who has been working at Knighton Heath Golf Club, recently completed the Level 2 Greenkeeping Apprenticeship with Sparsholt College and is set to continue to develop his knowledge and skills while undertaking the Level 3 Advanced Sports Turf Technician course.

Daniel said: “So many emotions were going around my head, I couldn’t believe it, but it’s brilliant. I phoned my dad as soon as I found out and he was with some family at home and they were all celebrating with me. I then spoke to my course manager and he and the rest of the team were completely thrilled. This award is as much for them as it is for me because we’re all part of a team.”

Daniels Lecturer and Assessor at Sparsholt College said: “I couldn’t be happier for Daniel. He has worked so hard throughout his apprenticeship and taken every opportunity that has been available to him. His passion and dedication to learning is exemplary and this has been highlighted by him winning this prestigious award”.

Please see a short video HERE to hear from Daniel and course manager at Knighton Heath Golf Club, Graham Hastie, as they share their experiences and explore the benefits of our Greenkeeping apprenticeship opportunities.
