Sparsholt College is celebrating the success of T Level Crop Production student Lucas Orton, who was selected to represent England as part of The Angling Trust,  England National U22 Carp Team at the U22 Carp World Championships in Latvia earlier in July.

The prestigious international competition brought together some of Europe’s most talented young carp anglers, with teams competing from countries including Latvia, France, Romania, Slovakia and Italy over four days of competition.

Lucas competed alongside his England teammate, Jack, delivering an outstanding performance throughout the championships. The pair secured an impressive silver medal/ second place in the individual pairs competition, demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork and determination against some of the strongest young anglers in Europe.

The England U22 team also performed admirably, finishing sixth overall in a highly competitive international field.

Lucas’s selection to represent England is a remarkable achievement and reflects the dedication, perseverance and passion he has shown both in his sport and throughout his studies at Sparsholt College.

Rosie Watts, Agriculture Lecturer at Sparsholt College, said:

“Lucas has shown tremendous dedication, both to his studies and to his sport. Balancing the demands of a T Level alongside competing at an international level is no small achievement, and we’re incredibly proud of everything he has accomplished. His selection to represent England, and to come home with an individual silver medal, is a testament to the hard work, commitment and resilience he demonstrates every day. We look forward to seeing what he achieves next and know he will continue to be an excellent ambassador for both the College and the agricultural sector.”

Special recognition should also go to Fisheries Lecturer Kingsley Davis, who has provided Lucas with outstanding support and mentoring throughout his studies, helping to nurture his talent and ambition.

Lucas’ achievement highlights the diverse talents of Sparsholt College students and demonstrates how dedication and hard work can lead to success both within education and beyond.

Everyone at Sparsholt College Group congratulates Lucas on his achievements and looks forward to following his future success in the sport.
