In early June 2024, Sparsholt Campus welcomed over 1000 year 8 and 9 students and teachers from local schools for an exciting and inspirational STEM focussed Sparsholt Futures event. The event aims to open the school student’s eyes to the exciting careers available to them in science, technology and sustainability in the land, environment, outdoor, sport and animal sectors. A mixture of industry exhibitors, expert lecturers and their students showcased cutting edge technology across Sparsholt’s 183-hectare countryside campus.

Winding their way through the campus, students experienced a multitude of subject zones full of activities, new technology and talks to help the students start thinking about their futures. Activities ranged from STIHL showcasing cutting-edge technology and The Innovation Agritech Group who build world-class aeroponic vertical farming systems using ground-breaking patented technology.

Students were also able to meet lecturers from Sparsholt Campus and University Centre Sparsholt who were using Sparsholt’s extensive facilities such as the Animal Health and Welfare Research Centre, Veterinary Nursing Centre, and Aquatic Research & Conservation Centre.

A teacher from St Joseph’s School reflected on the day:

“There was an amazing amount packed into the day with some great hands-on activities and lots of information – way more than I’d expected!”

It was also great to hear from student attendees, with one in particular saying:

“The college had a lovely atmosphere in general, I love how there are so many opportunities in many different subjects to do with animals or even sports depending what you enjoy. I have a feeling that this college may even hold an opportunity for me in the future!”
