On Wednesday 16th March, five colleges descended upon Sparsholt to take part in an Olympic-themed 5km cross country run, renamed the ‘Off Road to Rio’. The event was organised by students of Andover College as part of their Organising Events unit which sees them assessed on successfully planning, delivering and monitoring a sporting spectacle.
To enter the event each college had to identify two male and two female runners of mixed ability, all competing for the title of Best Overall Male, Best Overall Female and Best Overall College.
Keeping in line with the Olympic theme, the students of Andover designated a country to each participating college; Sparsholt were chosen as Jamaica, Andover as The Gambia, Queen Mary’s College sported yellow and green for Brazil, India represented by Southdown’s with Peter Symonds representing Team GB.
Each participant had to work their way through a designated route consisting of farm land, forest and plenty of hills. The route was successfully completed by all participants with the share of the spoils going to Peter Symonds, who were crowned Best Overall College.
