Primary school children across Winchester enjoyed the annual Winchester Primary Schools Tag Rugby Tournament courtesy of Sparsholt College Sport students who organised the event as part of their studies. On the day, Year 5 and 6 children (aged 9-11) from 11 schools competed with winning honours going to St Peters Primary School who will go forward to represent the Winchester area in the RFU Hampshire Games in June.

Organising the annual event, now in its eighth year is an important part of the Level 3 Fitness Academy Diploma who were required to deliver every aspect of the tournament from sourcing sponsorship from local businesses and special refereeing sessions from the RFU. Many of the students hadn’t refereed tag rugby before so it was a great learning experience for them.

St Peters Primary School (photo attached) won the day and will now go forward to represent the Winchester area in the RFU Hampshire Games in June. The plate was won by KingsWorthy Primary School and the Marsbar Bowl was won by Stanmore Primary School
