Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management

I knew friends who had been to Sparsholt and when I attended the interview day I liked the fact that it was smaller and felt more personal than some of the other colleges I had been contemplating. It is a very friendly place.

Being able to go out on work experience and working for trainers, Paul Nichols and David Pipe, has to be one of the things I have enjoyed the most during my time at Sparsholt. You also get the chance to go on some pretty amazing College trips. In my second year I visited Coolmore in Ireland – the biggest stud in the world.

I have also enjoyed being a resident here. The social life is amazing; there’s always something going on. There is also plenty of opportunity to ride and be around horses at Sparsholt, which I have really enjoyed, especially as my family has always had ponies and I have been riding since I was a child. Not everyone who comes here has had as much experience with horses as me but the lecturers are great at encouraging all of us to achieve our very best no matter what previous experience we’ve had.

I have a place at the British Racing School, which I am very excited about. It was during a visit to Newmarket in my first year that I decided this is where I wanted to go on to after finishing Sparsholt. Everything from thereon has been geared towards going to BRS.

I would definitely recommend Sparsholt. The lecturers are brilliant. They are everything you expect of a lecturer: knowledgeable and 100% supportive, even outside the College, and help students to reach their goals.

It has been the best two years I’ve had, easily!
