Agriculture

Sparsholt has given me a strong understanding of the fundamental areas of the industry so I can move on to higher education with confidence in my current knowledge.

“I chose to study Level 3 Agriculture, specialising in livestock production because I grew up on a family farm and wanted to expand and develop my knowledge of the industry to make it my career.

I’ve enjoyed the practical and theory based lessons during my time at Sparsholt, getting a perfect balance of all things related to the developing industry. My personal highlight has been visiting the LAMMA show with all my course mates in our first year.

I have learnt many new things – my theoretical understanding has improved greatly and will definitely benefit my future aspirations to study agriculture at degree level. I’ve enjoyed using the fleet of brand new tractors – there is a variety of models so I have had a broad range of experience.

I found the tutors very supportive and there are lots of people to turn to and places I can go to for information. The industry placement has also greatly furthered my practical progression outside of college.

Socially college life is fantastic, with great social opportunities and places around site where you can go during your free time. I travelled in using a college bus during my first year and that was very easy and hassle free.

I aspire to move on to higher education after finishing my studies, hopefully going to university to study agriculture and animal sciences and bringing the information and skills I learn back home to develop the family farm. Sparsholt has given me a strong understanding of the fundamental areas of the industry so I can move on to higher education with confidence in my current knowledge. Even after a short time at Sparsholt I was able to bring new and more efficient practices to our home farm to implement into our daily routines.

I’ll miss the friends I have made, I have learnt a lot but also had a great time and really been able to make the most of my two years here.”
