BSc (Hons) Aquaculture and Fishery Management graduate

I was a mature student and wanted to study something I had a real interest in. I was an avid angler with a keen interest in science, and once I saw the course at Sparsholt I knew it was the right one for me. I spoke to one of the tutors, who was a fantastic ambassador for the course and the rest is history!

One of the teaching high points was environmental studies, with inspirational teaching and enjoyable lectures. The study trip to Spain to look at European aquaculture systems was fantastic and a real eye-opener, bringing our classroom learning to life. All of the lectures were packed with information, it was just so interesting. The outside learning was also fantastic, including electro fishing and visits to a local research station.

Since leaving Sparsholt I joined Carpology magazine as Digital Editor. I developed my camera skills in video and still photography, as well as working on the social media side of the magazine. I’m now currently researching setting up my own company producing promotional videos within the aquaculture industry to help bring products to market.

What I took away from Sparsholt was an area of expertise and the ability to talk confidently and credibly on a range of subjects, from fish health to the environmental impact of pollution, European regulations etc. I’m really excited about the future.
