FdSc Animal Management and Applied Science and former Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management student

I first heard about Sparsholt College through my family as my uncle was a student here when he was younger. I’ve always wanted to work with animals and I was told it was the best place to go to get good qualifications and experiences for the animal trade.

My Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management provided me with two great years gaining knowledge and experience from lecturers who have worked in the zoo and pet trade. I went on two incredible trips in my second year, one to visit all the big zoos in Scotland and the other to South Africa to see wildlife parks and rehabilitation centres. There was also the chance to meet and handle dangerous and exotic animals like puff adders, cheerahs and honey badgers.

I decided to continue at Sparsholt to study for the Foundation Degree in Animal Management and Applied Science because of the tutors and lecturers who I knew I could learn so much about working with animals from. I decided to do a degree to further ready myself to start work in the industry.

So far, the degree course has fulfilled all my expectations and I’ve already had three great weeks of work experience Shaldon Zoo. The course has been challenging but worth it and I would recommend it to anyone who has aspirations and dreams of working with animals.
