Countryside, Conservation and the Environment

The course itself was a very social course due to the small group numbers.

I’m Tommy, and I am doing Countryside, Conservation and the Environment – Level 3.  

I chose to come to Sparsholt College because the course was a practical based course that was about all my interests. 

The course, industry links and tutors here at Sparsholt are all very good! During my time here, a highlight has been the coastal unit that we did in the second year of my course. I enjoyed going on various site visits and learning about how the coastline was formed. 

On the course I have learnt lots of survey methods that I will use if I do surveys in my future career. We’ve used equipment like the bill hook when doing habitat management – it was the best tool to use and the most versatile. 

The social side of College was very good – the course itself was a very social course due to the small group numbers. I will miss this the most when I leave College. 

After I’ve finished my course, I would like to work in ornithology. Sparsholt has prepared me for this as it has given me skills in communication, and an understanding of how the environment works. 

My three favourite things about Sparsholt have been the practical elements, the lectures and site visits.
