What will I learn:
The course consists of 3 days of theory lessons and 1 day of practical lessons. You will gain hands-on experience at our purpose-built Animal Health and Welfare Research Centre where you will gain essential experience with, reptiles, small mammals, zoo mammals, companion animals and farm livestock.
The units are assessed by a series of Workbooks, Assignments, Soft Skills passport and a multiple-choice exam. You will utilise practical lessons to develop practical skills and evidence collections including taking photographs of you carrying out specific practical tasks.
There is an opportunity to participate in a UK based study tour and various trips to Zoo collections as well as opportunity to attend guest speaker sessions.
Students will need to complete 2-week external work placement within the Animal Care Industry.

Entry Requirements:
Four GCSE’s Grade 3 or above, preferably including Maths and English or Level 1 Diploma in Landbased Studies at Merit.
What can I study next:
- Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care (Subject to achieving either Maths or English at 4 or above)
- T – Level (Subject to achieving both Maths and English.
- Apprenticeship (Animal Welfare Assistant).
