BBC Radio 4 Farming Today were at Sparsholt College this week interviewing Arboriculture students and their lecturer Steve Woollard. Farming Today is looking at the forestry industry and producer Sally Challoner was keen to find out about the skills required and training available for a successful career in the sector.
Sally found out that there is a significant scientific element to the course such as plant and soil science, pest and diseases of trees as well as the many practical skills students learn such as tree climbing, tree felling and chainsaw use.
The students she spoke to clearly enjoy what they do, speaking passionately about doing something they love and being outdoors.
