Leading land and environment college and university centre, Sparsholt is encouraging prospective students to go against the grain and pursue their dream careers at their Open Day, Saturday 14 October 2017, 10am-2pm. The autumn event is the ideal opportunity for parents and students with a true passion for practical subjects to engage with expert lecturers, tour the outstanding countryside campus and discover the scope of careers that stem from the Sparsholt learning experience.

Sparsholt College’s students progress onto a range of exciting degrees and professions. James Cairncross, a former Arboriculture student is now a working Arborist at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens whilst Charlotte Blackmore, who previously studied Animal Management at the College, has now started an International Wildlife Biology degree at the University of South Wales.

Student, Kennedy Dellicott is currently progressing from her Level 3 Fish Management course at the College onto the BSc (Hons) Aquaculture and Fishery Management degree at University Centre Sparsholt. Kennedy explains how studying at the College so far has given her unique insight that is one of a kind and will transfer into her degree and future career. She said: “A Levels weren’t for me, however I knew I wanted to get a degree in the Fishery industry and Sparsholt provided me with a more hands-on way of accomplishing this. I’ve loved learning in a practical setting and the lecturers have been so helpful; not only as teachers but as industry insiders by sharing their own bespoke experiences, informing me as a future expert in my field.”

During the Open Day, prospective students can explore courses, degrees and apprenticeships across many land-based, active and sports subjects. Visitors can tour the industry-standard facilities set across 400 acres of Hampshire countryside, as well as receiving course advice from Sparsholt teaching experts.

Principal, Tim Jackson said: “Our students learn from industry-recognised experts and go on to a range of careers and further training, higher apprenticeships and degree level study – often here at our own University Centre Sparsholt. Our alumni are to be found in key roles in their industries all over the world.”

He continued: “At Sparsholt our students find their place, they come together to study the subject they feel passionate about, which is often already very important to them, or a big part of their life. Our campus is their classroom and our contacts in their industry take them to the next level. If you choose to study at Sparsholt, you’ll quickly become part of a learning and working community dedicated to your success.”
