Sparsholt Compete in First Ever Netball Fixture
Since February, regular, weekly Netball sessions have been on offer to female learners on the Sparsholt campus. The sessions came about following feedback gathered from a Learner Voice meeting in which students had the chance to voice their comments on a variety of College matters.
Regarding sport and fitness provision, comments were made by female learners that they would like exclusive, female only sessions where they felt comfortable and are able to participate in a relaxed environment. An offer was then put forward for a lunchtime Netball session delivered by our Sports Activator, Emma Collier.
Following large interest from both sports and non-sports courses, Sparsholt’s first ever Netball Club began in February and now takes place every Monday from 12.25 in the sports hall. The sessions are backed and promoted by the National ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, a Sport England initiative which celebrates the active women up and down the country doing whatever it takes to have fun, make friends and get fit.
After only 4 weeks of training, the team played their first ever fixture against locals Peter Symonds – a match not won but nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed by all. For more information on Netball and female participation, email Emma.Collier@sparsholt.ac.uk
Super Stars
The Annual Hampshire College’s ‘Super Stars’ event took place at Sparsholt recently following the inaugural spectacle hosted by Peter Symonds in the previous year. ‘Super Stars’ is all about finding the best ‘all-rounders’ at sport and putting them to the test against other students of similar ability.
Competing in their first Super Stars, Team ‘Active Sparsholt’ got their share of the spoils winning a gold medal in the best overall male category, won by first year Ezekiel Bademosi.
Ultimately, our sister campus Andover College won the title of the best overall college. Portsmouth College and Peter Symonds also took part.
Staff Circuits is back!
Following the success of last year’s sessions, a new and improved circuit’s class returned last month and will remain on offer for all Sparsholt staff for the rest of the academic year. This class adds to the existing ‘menu’ of evening staff classes including Legs Bums and Tums with Jo Todd and Zumba. The circuits classes take place every Monday evening, 5.15pm in the sports hall with Fitness Instructor Jordan O’Donnell. Come along, join in and ‘shape up’ for the summer. Your first session will be FREE before we introduce a nominal cost thereafter. For more information please contact Jordan directly.
