What better way to celebrate than Endangered Species Day than the arrival of two female Visayan Tarictic Hornbills at the Animal Health and Welfare Research Centre.

This species is endemic to the Philippines and one of three hornbill species currently housed at the college. The two female hornbills are part of a European breeding programme and in the near future will be joined by a male hornbill from another zoological collection.

The AHWRC’s goal is to successfully captive breed this hornbill species as well as promote the in-situ conservation work undertaken by the Talarak Foundation in the Philippines.
