What will I learn?

This day course is in three parts as follows

Section1: Understand the purpose of effective writing.

  • Identify who is your audience.
  • Identify different types, and the purposes of business documents: –
    o Formal business letters
    o Emails
    o Memos

  • Be able to prepare different business document: –
    o Planning and structure of different business documents.
    o Key points to writing each type of business document.

  • Be able to check the content of the business document for brevity, accuracy,
    and presentation.

  • Be able to edit and revise the business document.

    Section Two: Grammar and punctuation

    Knowing the most common writing errors can improve the clarity and readability of your work and keep your writing free from obvious mistakes: –

  • Understand sentence construction.
  • Understand how to use punctuation.
  • Identify common misspellings.
  • Know the difference between the active and passive voice.
  • Identify and understand the correct use of contractions.

    Section three: Practical Session

    Prepare and write three different types of business documents using different scenarios.
    Reflect on the sessions learning and set 3 goals for continuous improvement

    Please Note

    Due to funding restrictions this course is not available to existing full time Sparsholt College/Andover College students aged 16, 17 or 18 (or 19-24 with an EHCP) on the 31/8 in the year they started their course.
