Sparsholt College is showcasing the strength of their apprenticeships and how they benefit learners, employers and the economy during National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) at their upcoming Open Day on Saturday 10 March 2018, 10am-2pm.

The College will have their team of Apprenticeship Liaison Officers on hand to provide expert advice for future apprentices in industries as diverse as horticulture, digital learning design or agriculture. Prospective visitors and parents will be talked through the process of finding and completing an apprenticeship, all with the on-going support of the Sparsholt team.

The Open Event is also ideal for those looking to explore full and part-time courses and degrees. Whether a school leaver keen to develop advanced technical skills in the many land-based careers, or someone ready to undertake a degree at Foundation, Undergraduate or Masters level, Sparsholt College and University Centre Sparsholt are the region’s number one choice.

Apprentices Niall Wright is just one of Sparsholt’s impressive cohort of Game and Wildlife Management apprentices. Niall said: “My apprenticeship at Norfolk Estate provides a great gateway into the game keeping industry. By simultaneously learning at Sparsholt College and training on the estate with their on-site experts, I’m exposed to a learning experience that gives me access to the best of both worlds.”

Game & Wildlife Management expert, Dave Ballantyne has been recruiting apprentices at Sparsholt College for over 30 years. He explains the value of apprenticeships for employers and the wider economy, saying: “Employers benefit from the apprentice’s commitment and by investing their time and effort in these learners, they train them up as fantastic future experts ready for possible permanent recruitment – something that often happens with our Sparsholt students.”

Supporting this, recent research shows that of the 90% of apprentices who stay in employment after completing their training, 71% stay with their original employer. Apprentices also boost productivity to businesses by an average of £214 per week, proving their contribution to economic growth.
