Heidi, Animal ManagementSparsholt is the ideal starting point for a career in this highly competitive industry, with an international reputation for animal studies.
Our specialist Animal Health and Welfare Research Centre houses over 600 animals from over 100 species including species of conservation importance, domestic, exotic and zoo animals – enabling you to gain theoretical and practical experience relevant for most careers in animal care.
The comprehensive animal collection provides students with hands-on practical experience in which they can apply their classroom learning. There are also opportunities to volunteer in order to gain additional, valuable experience in animal husbandry, building enclosures and giving guided tours on Open Days.
“Before teaching Animal Management I worked in industry as a senior primate keeper and rhino and exotic hoofstock keeper. I have worked in zoos and animal sanctuaries in Australia and Belize. My main interests are wildlife, ecology, zoo health and animal behaviour..”
